Speaker: Pastor Matt Fry
Nehemiah 1:1-11 (NLT)
Today, we are going to look into the heart of Nehemiah. What was inside of him that caused him to be a champion.
Did you know there is a champion inside of us?
Remember, we are better together.
Nehemiah was a cup bearer. The role was to taste the drink BEFORE the king just to ensure it wasn't poisoned.
In this story, we hear how Nehemiah first learned of the wall being torn down and how he reacted.
Broken Heart
Our hearts need to break for what God's heart breaks for. This is not a broken heart for a woman.
When God looks at our community, he does not only look at those who want to live for him. He also sees the thousands upon thousands of people who are not even interested in God. These people have pain, trouble, and hopelessness. God is looking for the Churches and people that will reach out to those who are lost.
Nehemiah 1:2-4 (NLT)
God didn't save us so that we will be selfish, but to share God's love in practical ways. When God looks at our schools, he sees students who need hope, peace, love, and eternal life. When you start to see your classmates and coworkers the way God see them, your heart will break.
Pastor talks about a time when he was 18 at Liberty University. His professor Doug Rennan said, "85% of all those who receive Christ did so before they were 18 years of age. 95% of people receive God before 21."
As a result, Matt's heart broke for those people who didn't know God. This was the moment that he decided to really serve and help those who were hopeless.
Matt believes that this NOW generation will change the world.
Honest Heart
When we confess our sins, challenges, or stresses to God, we are in fact being honest with him. God already knows these things; however, when we share these things, we are agreeing with him. As a result, God will wipe all of those things from your record.
You don't have to be perfect, you just have to be honest.
Courageous Heart
A courageous heart is not one that waits for things to happen. Nehemiah saw a need in his home town, so he decided that he was going to do something.
Nehemiah 2:1-5 (NLT)
He Built A Dream Team
Nehemiah built a team that had a broken, honest, and courageous heart. As a team, he sought to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem. Without hesitation, the team jumped on board to make it happen.
Nehemiah 2:17-18 (NLT)
They Had To Overcome Opposition
People during that time tried to criticize the work of the team. Nehemiah didn't pay them any mind.
Nehemiah 4:6 (NIV)
What caused them to rebuild the walls? It was there heart. Nehemiah did not allow anything to distract them from finishing the project.
Nehemiah 6:15-16 (NLT)
It was a miracle that the team was able to rebuild the wall in 52 days. A miracle is when something amazing happens in your life and people start scratching their heads by something only GOD can fix. As a result, God gets the glory.
The healing and salvation in your life is what the CHURCH is all about.
