On Friday, November 12, 2010, 81 aspirants seeking membership into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. gathered on the campus of UNC Charlotte, in Charlotte, North Carolina, for a three day event known as Cluster Intake.
The day began promptly at 1pm with a brief welcome from the Middle Eastern Province Membership Orientation Intake Program (MOIP) Co-Chairs Wendell Andrews and Robert Muhammad. Following the welcome, aspirants and current members introduced themselves.
For the next few hours, presenters offered a detailed review of the Fraternity’s history, songs, poems, and governance. The session served to provide context to a set of random names, dates, and lore. Additionally, it gave the aspirants time to warm up for a very grueling set of tests.
Based on the reactions of aspirants, the first day is a tough one. The tests are not easy and there is very little time to catch a break. For both aspirants and members alike, Cluster Intake is exhausting but rewarding.
For those six men coming from Smithfield Alumni, the future looks bright. Keep them in your prayers as the journey is not yet over.
