I waited patiently for a response, but got nothing. Sometimes, you just have to figure this stuff out yourself.
After a quick Google search, I learned that today, according to the 4sqDay website, is the first global social media holiday. Thanks to Nate Bonilla-Warford, Kenneth Glanton, Jessica Barnet, Laura Petrolino, and others, April 16th is now 4sq Day.
If you are like me and curious about the significance of the day, it's all in the math (4 squared = 16 or 4/16 as in April 16th). Nate, a fan of Foursquare, thought it would be fun to check in on the famous location-based phone application. Through a series of grassroot channels, the Foursquare company learned about the idea and agreed to offer a badge.
In celebration of this day, a number of people and cities from around the world are checking-in and hosting special events. To see if your city is participating, click here. While you're at it, try to get more than fifty (50) people to check-in using Foursquare and earn the coveted Swarm badge.
To earn the 4sq Day 2010 badge, simply shout the following phrase, "Happy Foursquare Day!" from the Foursquare app. Within moments, you should receive an e-mail and Twitter notification about the unlocking of the new badge.
Good luck!
